Media technology and visualisation are areas where Linköpings University in Norrköping is regarded as a world leader. The University educates civil engineers to a high level of competence, however the research and development carried out is on the cutting edge. Visualisation is, in brief, all about incorporating such solutions as, 3D models and Virtual Reality, create easy to understand interpretations and simulations of complex and often large quantities of data. Areas where this application can be used include for example, the care sector, environment, meteorology, space and logistics. Through the use of visualisation it is easy to create better and more comprehensible foundations, for example, finance and business decisions. Visualisation is also very much in evidence in the entertainment industry; film and television as well as computer games. There are a number of businesses and operations in Norrköping with direct association to this area. This world-wide unique competence manifests itself in, amongst other things, Norrköpings Visualisation and Interaction Studio, NVIS, which provides researchers with opportunities to communicate their progress to visiting groups. The next generation visualisation centre to be located in Norrköping Science park is at the project stage
