Printed Electronics

Linköping University and the research institute Acreo have conducted research within organic electronics since the 1980’s. Today they are at the forefront of international development in this area, both regarding research as well as production. Research objective is to develop a more economical way of integrating electronic circuits for use within large volume production. The solution is to print organically, electrically conductive material on a flexible carrier, in the first place paper. This technique is functional especially in such areas as labels, packaging and various types of printed matter. With process manufacturing printed electronics becomes cheap and opens the door completely for new solutions within, for example, logistics, transport and care sector.

Printed Electronics Arena

Printed electronics Arena (PEA) is a VINNVÄXT* initiative actively promoted by Norrköping Science Park. PEA’s vision is to create sustainable, long-term growth in the region around Norrköping. This will be achieved by commercialising and exploiting the extensive research and development activities which are conducted at Linköping University (LiU) and Acreo in the new technological field of Printed Electronics.

Resources have been assembled in Norrköping Science Park to form a new incubator for small-scale production and the development of prototypes. This is called PEA Manufacturing and provides newly established businesses in the area with access to research, various production and printing methods as well as other support functions.

The PEA network was established to market these businesses within the municipality, university and private sector. These so-called Triple Helix partners together can work towards regional development of organisations with Printed Electronics as the basis. This can take the form of cooperating on marketing activities, production and product development. The aim is to create a network of various clusters relating to Printed Electronics which provides the participating companies with the opportunity to exchange experiences and make use of research and development results which have already been achieved.
